I'm Kate Gradwell, a landscape and portrait artist working, from my home studio in Sydney. My practice is rooted in a lifelong connection to the natural world and a sustained interest in the way light moves through the landscape. Working primarily in acrylics, I explore the quiet, transformative moments that occur in familiar environments—those instances where light and atmosphere briefly shift, inviting stillness, reflection, or renewal. Through layered mark-making and subtle modulations of tone and colour, I aim to capture not just what I see, but what I feel—inviting viewers into a space of quiet attention. My work seeks to honour the experience of being present in nature and the way light can reframe even the most familiar places.
