Kate Gradwell Art

How do commissions work?
Contact me, usually via email, to discuss your ideas - I typicallly need to know the sort of artwork you'd like me to create, the subject, style, size, any reference images you'd like me to use or if you'd like something similar to another artwork in my portfolio.
This usually involves some backwards and forwards to get a common understanding, I will then provide a written professional quotation outlining my understanding of what we've agreed. In some cases I prepare a preliminary sketch or study to show the composition, palette etc
Typical process once commission brief is agreed
-
You pay a 33% non-refundable deposit to confirm commission
-
I purchase and prepare the materials
-
At completion of one or more studies (as necessary) and at stages in the process I provide images of the artwork and receive feedback from you on the composition
-
At close to completion of the work I will solicit feedback for minor changes if necessary, then complete and sign (front or back)
-
I varnish the painting – I typically use a satin varnish, but can use matt or gloss if you prefer
-
If you have requested professional framing we agree a moulding and the turnaround is typically 3 weeks, but I can ask for a faster turnaround if needed
-
Once the artwork is complete you pay the outstanding payment and we arrange for delivery of artwork
