Kate Gradwell is a professional landscape and portrait artist working from her home studio in Sydney.

 

Kate's practice is rooted in a lifelong connection to the natural world and an interest in the way light moves through the landscape. Working primarily in acrylics, she paints the often brief transformative moments that occur in the landscape, those instances where light and atmosphere shift, changing the feel and experience of the place. Kate's scenes are often set at transitional times of the day, specifically early morning and late afternoon or golden hour.

 

Through layering, considered mark-making and subtle modulations of tone and colour, Kate aims to capture not just what she sees, but also what she feels, inviting the audience into her experience. Kate's work celebrates being present in nature and explores how light can reframe even the most familiar places.
