Acrylic on panel, 40.6 x30.3cm

Framed in solid beech

Inspired by a visit to the Australian Museum in Sydney, hoping to photograph the bird collections as reference material for a new series. However what unexpectedly caught my interest were the fish and snake skeletons. Such interesting pieces both grotesque and beautiful at the same time.

I particularly liked this specimen of a Red Indian Fish skeleton (probably not the most politically correct name). It caught the eye - such a stark, aggressive looking thing, yet it’s owner is the most delightful passive little fish living it’s life amongst the sea sponges, moving through the Australian coastal waters like a drifting leaf.
